The lower mount hole uses the stock 5/8 bolt and washer from the vehicle, this is mounted with the nut and washer closest to the
radiator, this bolt is best removed from the front end, underneath the truck, I like to use a gearwrench ratcheting wrench to make
easy work of this
1. The lower bolt is the first bolt you want to install on the alternator, just snug with a wrench, I always make sure the bolt is in the
hole, and forward all the way, then gently slip the alternator into position, then go underneath the truck and install the bolt/washer
from below
2. The top mount is the second thing that you want to install, slip the belts over the pulley and use the supplied nut to attach the top
ear of the alternator to the slotted arm from the truck, pry the alternator over, or even use your hand to pull the unbit towards you
and tighten the top bolt used to mount/adjust the alternator
3. Install the bracket on the rear of the alternator, you should not have had to remove the slotted bracket from the extension on the
alternator, using the supplied bolt connect the lower end of the slotted bracket to the REAR LOWER block mount, tighten the bolt
4. Then you need to tighten the bolt which connects the supplied slotted bracket to the rear extension of the alternator
5. Almost done!, tighten the first bolt that you installed from underneath the truck with your 5/8 wrench
6. Install the charge wire, this is the fat wire that connects to the alternator, it has a metal band on it stamped with a #2, you also
should check to see that the other end of the wire is connected to the large post on the starter solenoid on top of the starter, just
look for the wire, it is also marked with a tag as #2, a faster way to check the wire is to use a volt meter, check for resistance
between the starter solenoid large post and the end of the alternator charge wire, there should be no resistance, if there is you
have an issue with the wire and i urge you to call me for a free, simple fast fix
7. Connect the factory ground wire to the bolt on the rear of the alternator case, the case is marked GRD next to it
8. Start the truck, look to see if the charge gage is moving into the green area, you should also use a volt meter on the DC setting
to check the voltage output, if you check for voltage between the charge wire and the ground it should read 27.5 volts DC
9. Enjoy the ride, Clean the tools, and tell people about our kit, we also have a 12 volt 189 amp alternator kit that hooks to the top
of the alternator kit you now have installed, yup, dual alternators, and dual voltage for all of those extra things you want to add to
your truck, like computers, stereo's, and electric winches!
If you are ever in the area feel free to drop me off a root beer!
We custom build these units, the 12 volt conversion units, and the 12 volt add on units can be had in 220 amp, thats a lot of power!
Our units can also come in a military anodized finish to resist corrosion, see the picture below for a view of the anodized housing appearance
